On October 15, 2017, Alexa Noone was crowned Miss New Jersey USA 2018. Alexa is a Nicaraguan, Filipino American with German and Irish decent. She is 23 years old from Bayonne. Alexa moved to New Jersey in 2016 from California to work out of the Newark Liberty International Airport as a flight attendant for United Airlines.
Alexa graduated from high school in 2012 where she was the Freshman and Sophomore Class President, Junior Chair of Pep Rallies and in her Senior year she was the Associated Student Body (ASB) President. She was a 4 year Cheerleader and All-American. She was also an honor student and a member of the National Junior Honor Society and the National Society of High School Scholars. She won multiple scholarships from: PTA, PTSA, Elks Lodge, James Tutino Memorial Scholarship, LAPD and was a Discus Award winner. She graduated from the EMT and Phlebotomy programs. She is currently studying online for a degree in Criminal Justice through BYU. Her goal is to pursue a career in Law Enforcement.
Alexa grew up training in Gymnastics. She also trained in Martial Arts and after 6 1/2 years she mastered the art of self defense by earning her first degree black belt in Judo. She feels empowered with the knowledge and skills she has developed. She encourages young girls to feel empowered as well by learning the necessary skills needed to defend themselves.
In her spare time, Alexa enjoys spending time with her family and friends, living a healthy and active lifestyle and traveling. She has been to 42 states and over 20 different countries. She has gained a great perspective for different countries, their cultures and traditions. She also found traveling to be a very humbling and character building experience. She is thankful to live in the USA, and has learned to appreciate what she has and has a great respect for those who live without.
Oprah Winfrey stated, "Know what sparks the light in you, then use that light to illuminate the world." Throughout Alexa's year as Miss New Jersey USA, she is honored to be an advocate for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Alexa is the youngest member of her family. Her only 2 siblings are identical twins born with Prader-Willi Syndrome. She has volunteered 8 years with her brothers Challenger Baseball League for the mentally and physically disabled. Currently she is working with the Best Buddies Organization which allows her to use her light to help put an end to the social, physical and economic isolation of the 200 million plus people living with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).
